Fresh off the heels of season three, we’re back with a new LIVE SHOW this Monday, April 29th, at Q.E.D. It all goes down at 8:30 p.m. For this edition of our countdown, we’ll be bringing you the best songs of 1997.
It’s our third birthday! To celebrate, we invited Friends Who Folk over to QED for a very special LIVE show where they serve as both the interview and musical guests. We talk with bandmates Ned Riseley (Six Degrees of Separation on Broadway) and Rachel Wenitsky (Reductress, The Story Pirates Podcast) about “Save Me” by Aimee Mann, a song that they both absolutely love.
Chrissy Shackelford (Wyatt Cenac’s Problem Areas) is on the show to talk to us about Jewel – Near You Always. April Kae (Imanigold) plays the cover, and then brings up the rest of Imanigold for a few more songs! This is a jam-packed episode!
On this *live* episode of the podcast, we talk with comedian, writer, and illustrator BRANSON REESE about the Jawbreaker song “Want” and we hear some music from our dear friend MATT COSTABILE.
On this latest LIVE episode of the show, we sit down with data journalist and illustrator Mona Chalabi (Guardian US, BBC, FiveThirtyEight) to discuss the song “No Romance” by Tirzah. Since she’s currently not seeing a therapist, Mona asks us to try and give her insight on what this song means to her. This is a first for us and we end up talking a lot about romance, whether or not it’s a necessary part of life, logic as it relates to romance, and what we’re told about love growing up. How much does love matter to Mona and what does the word even mean? She answers these questions while admitting that she is a “really really really hard person to date.”
Lauren Ashley Smith, head writer on The Rundown with Robin Thede, joins us on this LIVE edition of the show to talk about “Ain’t Nobody” by Rufus & Chaka Khan. We are also joined by one of our favorite musical guests, Mikki Hommel, who not only covers “Ain’t Nobody” beautifully, but she also debuts a brand-new original track and improvises a song based on suggestions from the audience. WOW.
Goodness gracious! We’re back this Sunday, 5/6, at 8:30 PM, with a brand new LIVE show featuring comedic madman Branson Reese (Cartoon Network, his own damn comics) and musician Matt Costabile (The Planes, Rockets On Wire, Endl’ng). We’ll be talking with Branson about the Jawbreaker song “Want” and hearing music from Matt, which two things that excite us very much. In advance of the show, let’s get to know our guests a little better!
LOVE IS IN THE AIR!!! We continue our annual tradition of LOVE SONGS ONLY for the Valentine’s Day edition of the live show and we invite SEVEN wonderful friends to join us for the occasion.
